Nicoleta Safca

Nicoleta has been an engineer since 2018 at ELI-NP (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics), and since 2021, she has been coordinating the activity of the X-ray Imaging Laboratory - XIL. She holds a degree in Medical Engineering, a master's in Information Systems in Medicine from the University Politehnica of Bucharest, and has completed a doctoral program in physics and medical imaging. She has overseen the entire implementation of the X-ray Imaging Laboratory, leading the construction and development phases of the projects. She is responsible for planning scientific directions and activities, managing budgets, and scheduling experiments for internal and external users for X-ray imaging laboratory.

Her primary research interests include phase-contrast X-ray imaging for medical and industrial applications, particularly using this technique for early-stage breast cancer identification at low radiation doses with new X-ray sources created with high-power lasers. Other research directions of interest include X-ray source metrology, tissue dose calculation, as well as fundamental physics studies with helical X-ray beams.

In 2021, she founded the Association of Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (AFIST), aiming to create a community that supports and promotes women in technical fields and contributes to the personal and professional development of young people through programs and events dedicated to their progress.
